Manchester City & Real Madrid Targeting New Left-Back This Summer

AC Milan director Geoffrey Moncada has confirmed that the club is prepared to sell left-back Theo Hernandez this summer if he does not extend his contract. The 27-year-old defender is approaching the final 12 months of his current deal, leading to speculation about a potential transfer.

Hernandez has been on the radar of Manchester City and Real Madrid, both of whom are looking to strengthen their left-back position in the upcoming transfer window. The French international has been a key player for Milan, but the club is unwilling to risk losing him on a free transfer.

Theo Hernandez Emerging as Possible Target After Contract Stand-Off

Theo’s contract negotiations with AC Milan have stalled, with reports indicating that both parties remain far apart on the financial terms of an extension. The Serie A club is keen to resolve the situation before the summer window opens.

Milan had already been open to selling Theo in January when Serie A newcomers Como made a €40 million bid for him. The club was prepared to accept the offer, but the player rejected the move, choosing instead to finish the season with the Rossoneri.

“The important thing is to control the players; we cannot lose a player on an expiring contract. Never. This also applies to Theo and [Mike] Maignan,” Moncada told DAZN.

This statement highlights Milan’s firm stance on contract renewals, emphasizing that players in the final year of their deals will either extend or be sold.

Real Madrid & Man City Keen on Hernandez Amid Alphonso Davies Uncertainty

Hernandez was once hailed as one of the world’s best left-backs, and his potential availability has sparked interest from Europe’s elite. Manchester City have been monitoring his situation closely, while Real Madrid could join the race for his signature after missing out on Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies.

Real Madrid had been prioritizing Davies as their main left-back target but have struggled to negotiate a deal with Bayern Munich, who remain reluctant to sell. As a result, the Spanish giants may turn their attention to Hernandez, who previously played for Los Blancos between 2017 and 2019.

Theo Hernandez’s Past with Real Madrid & Potential Return

Hernandez moved to Real Madrid from Atletico Madrid in 2017 for £23 million but was primarily used as a reserve player in his debut season. After a loan spell at Real Sociedad, he was eventually sold to AC Milan, where he has since flourished into a world-class defender.

Now, with Madrid searching for a left-back solution, a return to the Santiago Bernabéu could be on the cards. However, Manchester City remain in the mix, and their financial power could play a decisive role in the transfer saga.

What’s Next for Theo Hernandez? Possible Transfer Scenarios

With Milan unwilling to risk losing him on a free transfer, Theo Hernandez has three options:

  1. Sign a contract extension with AC Milan and continue his career in Serie A.
  2. Move to Manchester City, where Pep Guardiola is looking for a long-term solution at left-back.
  3. Return to Real Madrid, where he could finally fulfill his potential at the club that originally signed him.

Milan’s transfer strategy suggests that unless Hernandez commits his future to the club, he will be sold this summer. With both Man City and Real Madrid interested, the upcoming transfer window could be pivotal in deciding Theo Hernandez’s future.
