Alan Shearer Urges Son Heung-min to Lead Team Improvement After Arsenal Defeat

Tottenham Hotspur have experienced a rocky start to the new Premier League season, most recently suffering a home defeat to Arsenal in the North London derby. With just four points from four games, Spurs’ lack of cutting edge up front has been a key issue, and Premier League legend Alan Shearer has called on their senior players to step up and lead the way forward.

Despite dominating parts of their match against Newcastle United and managing a convincing four-goal win over a struggling Everton side, Tottenham have struggled for consistency. Their opening-day draw against Leicester City and the recent defeat to Arsenal have highlighted the team’s need for more from their attacking players. Shearer, the league’s all-time top scorer, believes that Spurs’ lack of quality in key moments is costing them dearly.

Speaking to Betfair, Shearer pointed out that summer signing Dominic Solanke, brought in for £65 million, is still finding his feet, which puts additional pressure on experienced players like Son Heung-min and James Maddison to deliver.

“Solanke isn’t quite up to speed yet, which is understandable given his recent niggling injury. He played the first game, missed the next two, and returned for the Arsenal match, but there’s no doubt they’re misfiring in forward positions. “

Shearer emphasized that Tottenham’s new recruits, while talented, are still adjusting to the top flight, which makes it crucial for the team’s senior players to take more responsibility. “Yeah, absolutely. The likes of Son and Maddison need to take the lead and guide the younger players through this difficult patch,” he added.

With Spurs seeking consistency under new manager Ange Postecoglou, the onus will be on their more seasoned players to help turn things around.
