Fernando Alonso has expressed his belief that Ferrari should have secured victory at the Singapore Grand Prix, after finishing just behind Carlos Sainz at the Marina Bay Circuit. The Aston Martin driver earned four points for his eighth-place finish, after successfully undercutting Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg during the pitstop window.
Despite a difficult weekend, Alonso felt he extracted the maximum performance from his Aston Martin AMR24, outperforming the car’s pace over the race weekend. The two-time world champion, who was the first of the lapped drivers to finish, said, “Yeah, absolutely. Behind the top four teams, just in front of Checo, so normally it’s ninth and 10th available. Finishing eighth is a bit better than our best dreams.”
A Tough Race Despite Top-10 Finish
Although Alonso managed to secure his fourth top-10 finish in five races, he acknowledged that it was a challenging race. “Good points, but still one lap behind and not great pace, difficult car to drive the whole weekend,” he admitted. Reflecting on the result, he added, “We were just lucky we got points, but it was possible to be P15 and have the same feeling. I think we should [have] been 15th and 16th. We are eighth, two seconds behind a Ferrari. So I don’t know if I can do more.”
A Strong Effort Despite Limitations
Alonso’s performance highlighted his ability to maximize results even when the car struggles. His eighth-place finish, just behind Ferrari, shows his skill in squeezing out valuable points in a challenging race.
