ALONSO: “I WOULD HAVE WITHDRAWN FROM THE RACE IN THE BRAZILIAN GP”
The Spanish driver struggled at Interlagos over the past weekend, and the challenges he experienced on Sunday peaked with a backache.
However, Fernando Alonso stated that he would not give up despite the pain he experienced and the brake problems in his vehicle.
During the race, Alonso said on the team radio, “I will finish the race for the mechanics. Because they did a very good job today.”
“But my back really hurts a lot, the jump in the car is not normal,” he said.
After the session, he said: “We had a lot of jumping in the second half of the race. I don’t know why, but it was a really difficult race.”
“I think I would probably leave the race in another situation. But the mechanics did an incredible job of getting the car ready on the grid before the race, I had to finish the race for them.
In addition to the back pain he experienced, Alonso stated that he had great difficulty in keeping the vehicle on the track due to the brake problems of the Aston Martin vehicle.
“I think Lance had a brake problem on the formation lap, and I had the same problem in all restarts. It was almost like braking with a handbrake.”
“So I had a total nightmare. We need to be better in the next three races.”
