ALPINE HAS YET TO MAKE A “FINAL DECISION” ON THE 2026 F1 ENGINE PROJECT

Renault’s CEO Luca de Meo announced that they have not yet made a decision regarding the future of their F1 engine project.

Former Alpine team boss Bruno Famin had stated in a press conference just before the summer break that Renault was planning to end their own engine project and sign a deal with Mercedes. The plan was to become a customer of Mercedes and acquire various parts, including the engine, from the German manufacturer.

Renault employees in Viry-Châtillon were displeased with this plan and staged a protest during the Monza race weekend.

In response, Renault CEO Luca de Meo stated that no final decision had been made regarding the discontinuation of their engine production.

Speaking at Monza, Luca de Meo said, “We have about four or five weeks for the Board of Directors to evaluate the situation and make a final decision.”
“We are analyzing which approach will make us more competitive in Formula 1 from 2026 onwards. We are considering all possibilities.”

“We are seriously evaluating the idea of switching to the Mercedes engine, but it is not the only option. There are many factors we need to take into account when making a decision.”

“What does the marketing department think about this? What negative consequences could this transition have, including financial impacts?”

“Our goal is to create a competitive project. So we are considering many factors and are making our choices with great care.”
