Amorim Faces Squad Dilemma as Antony Insists on Staying at Manchester United
With winger Antony allegedly willing to stay at Manchester United despite his inability to make an impact since joining in 2022, manager Ruben Amorim may be facing a difficult issue.
Journalist Jorge Nicole claims that Antony has no intention of leaving United and has denied reports of a possible trade involving Lorran, a 19-year-old midfielder for Flamengo. The Brazilian winger aims to play more first team minutes this season than he did under former boss Erik ten Hag, especially since Amorim took over.
Antony’s Future and Performance
Antony has made 87 appearances since joining United from Ajax for £85 million in 2022, scoring a meager 12 goals and dishing out five assists. The 24-year-old is still determined to establish himself at Old Trafford, despite reports that the club was considering loaning him away in January. This season, Antony stated that he wanted to increase his goal contributions, saying:
“You’ll hear the name Antony in relation to goals and assists.” Antony’s contract expires in 2027.
Although Antony’s refusal to go could compel Amorim to find a method to reintegrate him into the team, a new start elsewhere could be advantageous for both the club and Antony. This might be the player’s chance to turn things around and earn his high price tag.
