Andy Carroll Explains Why He Dropped to Fourth Tier of French Football

Andy Carroll, a former striker for Liverpool and Newcastle United, has discussed his unexpected choice to join Bordeaux and play in the fourth division of French football. The 35-year-old, who left Ligue 2 team Amiens to make the sudden move last month, claims he was lured to the idea of helping Bordeaux reclaim their past glory.

Carroll clarified to Foot Mercato, saying:

“I had the chance to do it. Going back to Ligue 1 is a project I appreciate the notion of and something I wanted to pursue. Of course, I want to be a part of it since it’s a major club with a lot of supporters and fantastic facilities.”

Bordeaux has won 16 trophies, including six Ligue 1 crowns, making them one of the most successful clubs in France. But due to a financial crisis, the team was demoted from Ligue 2 to the National 2 earlier this year and declared bankrupt. Carroll is well aware of the chance he has to assist the team in rebuilding and regaining its former glory.
