Arsenal Dominates Rosenborg to Advance in Women’s Champions League Qualifiers

Arsenal advanced to the second round of the Women’s Champions League qualifiers with a commanding performance against Rosenborg, despite a modest scoreline. Arsenal took control of the match early in London, with Frida Maanum opening the scoring.

A mistake by Rosenborg goalkeeper Rugile Rulyte, who failed to deal with Maanum’s cross, allowed Arsenal to take the lead. Shortly after, English striker Alessia Russo came close, hitting the crossbar with a header, while Maanum, Mariona Caldentey, and Caitlin Foord also had opportunities to score in the first half.

Arsenal continued to create chances after the break, and it was unfortunate that a penalty was not awarded when Leah Williamson appeared to be pushed by Selma Magnusdottir during a corner. Russo hit the crossbar again with a long-range shot, followed moments later by Kyra Cooney-Cross doing the same.

Although Arsenal failed to add more goals, they comfortably progressed to the next round after their 6-0 victory over Rangers. The draw for the second qualifying round, where Manchester City will also be involved, will take place on Monday, 9 September, at 12:00 pm.

It promises to be an exciting day for women’s football fans!
