Arsenal Women Target Ex-Man City and MLS Coach Nick Cushing for Managerial Role

After Jonas Eidevall abruptly resigned last week, Arsenal Women are concentrating their efforts on acquiring Nick Cushing, the head coach of New York City FC, as their top option to succeed the Swede. Following a dismal start to the Women’s Super League (WSL) season, Eidevall resigned, leaving the Gunners to look for a new head coach.

Cushing, who presently manages for New York City FC in Major League Soccer (MLS), is well-known for his seven productive years with Manchester City Women. Before switching to men’s football as an assistant coach at NYCFC, he established himself as one of the best women’s football coaches while at City, where he guided the squad to numerous trophies. He led the MLS team to the playoffs after being elevated as head coach in 2022.

Difficulties in Protecting Cushing

Cushing’s contract with NYCFC expires at the end of 2025, which might make the Gunners’ pursuit difficult even if they are interested. Arsenal is still weighing their choices, though, and they are confident in Renee Slegers’ ability to lead the club in the near future by hiring her as an interim coach.
