Axel Tuanzebe Undergoes Emergency Surgery

After a bizarre accident last week while doing a regular house job, former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe barely missed losing his thumb. While cleaning dishes, the Ipswich Town midfielder sustained a major hand injury when a glass broke; a splinter severely cut his thumb and needed quick surgery.

The Daily Mail claims that the damage was significant enough to cause worries about Tuanzebe perhaps losing his thumb. Luckily, fast medical assistance rescued it; nonetheless, the defender will be sidelined for some time while he heals from the damage.

Comment of the Ipswich Manager

Before Ipswich lost 4-1 to West Ham United, the manager, Kieran McKenna, revealed specifics of the event. Tuanzebe skipped the game as advised to rest after surgery. McKenna said the team was disappointed about the defender’s absence, particularly given his outstanding start to the season.

“He’s done a hand injury, a very unfortunate accident. He’s had surgery and will be out for a while. It’s not going to be a couple of weeks, probably longer. There are still discussions with the specialists. He’s naturally a miss with the way he’s started the season. He’s going to be out for a little while.”

Tuanzebe’s return to action remains uncertain as he continues to recover from the surgery, but the injury is expected to keep him out for a significant period.
