Bagnaia: “I did a better job than Martin in the title fight”

Francesco Bagnaia believes he has done a ‘better job’ than title rival Jorge Martin this season.

Francesco Bagnaia is 24 points behind Jorge Martin in the championship ahead of the final in Barcelona.

The Italian has been in fine form this year, winning 10 of 19 races with his Ducati, but has suffered a number of setbacks, including a crash in the Malaysian GP sprint race.

Bagnaia believes his performance this season has been superior to Martin’s.

“I think we both deserve the title for what we did,” Bagnaia said.

“I was the one who made more mistakes. If you want to be champion you have to be more consistent and Jorge was better at that.”Jorge Martin, Pramac Racing, Francesco Bagnaia, Ducati Team

“But I think we definitely did a better job in terms of the results we achieved because I won 10 races on Sundays and six on Saturdays.

“I think we both deserve the championship. What I’m saying is that it’s a bit strange to lose the championship after winning 10 races.”

“But if Jorge wins the title I will be happy for him because we have known each other very well for a long time,” he said.
