Barcelona are reportedly going “all in” to secure Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah on a free transfer next summer. According to multiple reports, Barcelona sporting director Deco met with the Germany international and his agent in Leverkusen on Thursday to discuss a potential move to Camp Nou.
Despite Barcelona’s ongoing financial challenges, the club is looking to take advantage of the free transfer market, and Tah, whose contract with Leverkusen expires in 2025, is one of the most valuable players approaching the end of his deal. The 28-year-old has already confirmed that he will not sign an extension with the Bundesliga club, with Bayern Munich previously interested in his services. However, Leverkusen refused to let him go in the summer, opting to keep him until 2025.
Barcelona’s meeting with Tah and his agent was said to have gone well, with all parties reportedly leaving the discussions feeling positive about a potential agreement. Barcelona are now set to intensify their pursuit of the centre-back, although they are aware that Bayern Munich, managed by Hansi Flick—who shares an agent with Tah also remain interested in the player.
With Barcelona not expected to make any new signings in January, the club is focusing on using its financial flexibility to resolve its current squad matters. This includes registering Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, as well as finalising new contracts for key players Pedri and Gavi with La Liga. The club hopes to make a splash in the summer transfer window, with Tah being one of the top targets on their radar.
