Barcelona Files Complaint to UEFA over Arda Guler Post
Barcelona has expressed displeasure with a post made by the official Champions League social media account about Arda Güler and has taken the matter to UEFA.
WHAT HAPPENED?
According to a report from Real Madrid Confidencial, the official Champions League account posted a picture of Real Madrid’s Arda Güler, calling him “the best young player in the Champions League.” However, this post did not sit well with Barcelona. Reportedly, the Catalan club filed a complaint with UEFA.
THE BIGGER PICTURE:
It is alleged that Barcelona requested the post featuring Arda Güler be removed, which UEFA complied with. Barcelona President Joan Laporta was reportedly unhappy, feeling that Lamine Yamal, their own young talent, was not given the recognition he deserves.
Laporta is said to have asked UEFA for an explanation, believing Yamal’s performances in Europe’s top club competition warrant more appreciation.
Currently, Real Madrid sits second in La Liga, four points behind leaders Barcelona. Carlo Ancelotti’s team has secured 5 wins and 2 draws in 7 matches, while Barcelona has won all 7 of their games to maintain their position at the top.
