Barcelona’s pursuit of Athletic Club star Nico Williams hit a major roadblock this summer, as the Catalan giants were unable to guarantee his registration in time for the new season. According to Sport, despite Barcelona’s interest, Williams remained loyal to his current club, and the uncertainty around his potential registration also played a key role in the deal falling through.
Barcelona faced similar issues with their marquee summer signing, Dani Olmo, who missed the first two La Liga matches due to registration delays. The lack of assurance that Williams could avoid the same fate was a major sticking point in negotiations.
For now, Williams remains at Athletic Club and will be in action against Roma in the Europa League on Thursday, while Barcelona prepare to take on Getafe in La Liga on Wednesday.
