Barcelona’s Plans to Play La Liga Game in Miami Put on Hold
Plans to host Barcelona’s La Liga match against Atletico Madrid in Miami this December have been put on hold. La Liga president Javier Tebas has been keen to bring a Spanish top-flight game to the United States, with Hard Rock Stadium in Miami slated as the venue for this high-profile fixture. However, logistical challenges have delayed the plans.
To move the match overseas, La Liga would need approval from FIFA, UEFA, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), U.S. Soccer, and CONCACAF. Due to time constraints, securing these approvals in time for the December fixture has proven unfeasible. As a result, the match will remain in Spain.
Looking Forward
While this attempt has been paused, La Liga is expected to revisit the idea of hosting games in the U.S. in the future, as part of ongoing efforts to expand its international reach.
