BASTIANINI ANGRY: “IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO GIVE 100% IN THE MALAYSIA GP”
Enea Bastianini is furious that he could not compete for victory with Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin at the Malaysian Grand Prix.
The Italian driver took third place after Marc Marquez’s fall but finished the race 10 seconds behind the winning Bagnaia.Although the fall of Marquez allowed Bastianini to reduce the gap between him and the Spanish driver to 1 point on his way to the MotoGP season finale in Barcelona, Sepang was disappointed that he could not show the same form.
When asked if he was satisfied with the podiums he achieved in both Saturday sprint and Sunday’s main race, Bastianini said: “No, I’m not very satisfied. Because I had a hard time with the motorcycle all weekend.””We started well, but then we lost something. I was sure we could solve the problem this morning, but nothing changed.”
“I was lucky in the race because Marc had an accident. But there is nothing positive other than that.”
“I was slow in the middle of the corners and I didn’t have any speed at the entrance. It was impossible for me to give my 100%, I’m really angry.”
Barcelona will offer the chance to make up for the tough Catalan GP for Bastianini in May. The season closing race has moved from its traditional location in Valencia due to the flood disaster in the region, and Bastianini says it will be an advantage for Marquez.
“It’s an advantage for Marc to go to Barcelona, it’s his city,” Bastianini said.
“We have to give our 100% and I have to be much stronger compared to the Barcelona race at the beginning of the season,” he said.
Marquez, on the other hand, does not see Barcelona as an advantageous in terms of driving and ranks it as one of the two tracks he has the most difficulty with Sepang.
Bastianini added that he thinks moving the Valencia race to another location in Spain is ethically problematic, given the level of disaster in the first host city.
“It was not right for me to compete in Spain, but that’s the case. This is Dorna’s choice.”
