Ben White Told He ‘Wouldn’t Play Football’ If Not for High Wages

Ben White, an Arsenal defender, has been accused of not having a genuine love for the game. According to Patrick Bamford, a former teammate, White “wouldn’t play football” if it weren’t for the high salaries that players receive. Football may not be White’s passion outside of game days, as he has already said that he enjoys playing but is not very interested in watching the game.

When the 27-year-old White admitted that he never really like watching football, it caused some controversy. He said, “I always loved playing but never watching.” His early departure from England’s World Cup 2022 squad and inability to play for his country further supported the idea that he had a more practical than an emotional connection to the game.

Bamford’s Perspective on White’s Football Attitude

White’s former Leeds United teammate Patrick Bamford offered more details about White’s philosophy of the game. Bamford clarified in an interview with BBC 5 Live Sport that White is mostly focused on training and game days and shows little interest in the wider football community. “Ben White is a simple example. Amazingly talented player. However, aside from game day and practice, he wouldn’t watch football and wasn’t very interested in what happened in the sport, according to Bamford.

White is a crucial member of Arsenal’s defense despite controversy surrounding his approach toward the game and his continued outstanding on-field performances. Even while some might doubt his passion for the game, his skill and professionalism are undeniable, and he has benefited much from his ability to concentrate only on his position as a player. White continues to play at the top level for club and country, regardless of whether his connection with football is based on passion or pragmatism.
