BİNOTTO: “I AM STILL HAPPY WHEN FERRARI WINS.”

Former Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto admitted that he still feels happy when the Italian team achieves victory.

Having served at Ferrari for 27 years, Binotto held the position of team principal for the last four seasons. He faced heavy criticism in his final year due to a series of strategic errors and reliability issues that left the team behind in the championship race. At the end of 2022, he resigned and was replaced by former Alfa Romeo team principal Fred Vasseur.

Despite a slow start under Vasseur’s leadership, Ferrari became the only team besides Red Bull to win races in 2023, continuing to build on their success with three victories this season. However, according to Binotto, this performance cannot be attributed solely to Vasseur.

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, Binotto stated, “Fred has ensured continuity by continuing the project within the team, but he did not create a revolution.” He added, “I will be happy if Ferrari wins because I know how much effort has been made to bring the team to a certain level.”

The 54-year-old Binotto, who climbed the ranks from being the head of the engine department to technical director and then team principal, admits that he is still happy when Ferrari wins.

“I have supported Ferrari since my childhood. I still have many photos and memorabilia related to the team at home; the past cannot be erased.” He further stated, “Today, I am still happy when I see Ferrari winning, above all for this team that I know well and to which I believe I have contributed.”
