Brawl breaks out in Croatian League, multiple suspended and fined2024

A Croatian League (FAVBET Premijer Liga) game between Sibenka and Dinamo Zagreb was nothing out of the ordinary. Until the final whistle blew.

As the game ended 82:75, with the team from Sibenik winning the matchup between the neighbors in the standings, Sibenka’s Josip Jukic and Dinamo’s Karlo Miksic started going at each other, with Miksic momentarily grabbing Jukic by his neck.

The remaining players stormed in, and the scuffle continued. As the action went on, it continued into the stands in the Baldekin Sports Hall. Multiple fans joined in the action. As such, some of the fans jokingly called it the Croatian version of Malice at the Palace.

“I only regret one thing, and that is that the end overshadowed the whole 40 minutes where we were burning for this victory. I only regret the end of this whole story,” Sibenka’s head coach, Miro Juric, said after the game via Slobodna Dalmacija.

Sibenka will have to pay around €8000 for everything that happened. Josip Jukic was fined €900 and suspended for one game, while Martin Junakovic was also fined €900 but suspended for two games. The club, meanwhile, will have to pay for the incident with the fans as a whole, inadequate work of security officers, defective equipment, and other violations.

Karlo Miksic, who is usually seen as the main perpetrator of the brawl, received a €900 fine and a 3-game suspension. This was the only punishment Dinamo Zagreb received.

Interestingly, Sibenik did not receive any sanctions for fan behavior in the incident.
