BREAKING NEWS | Club President Announces Desire to Withdraw from League

BREAKING NEWS: Yeni Malatyaspor President Sahin Altunok announced their intention to withdraw from the league following the earthquake that struck the city.

After the 5.9 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Malatya yesterday, Sahin Altunok declared their desire to withdraw from Trendyol 1st League.

In a statement shared on the club’s social media, the club emphasized the following:

“Dear Malatyalılar and valued sports fans,

In the extraordinary election congress held recently, we took over the presidency of Yeni Malatyaspor Club and quickly began our work.

However, the 5.9 magnitude earthquake that occurred yesterday in the Kale district of Malatya has negatively impacted our city and team, leading to the demoralization of our players.

Our facilities and stadium, which suffered significant damage from the two major earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaras, have also been affected by the recent earthquake, exacerbating the damage. The struggle we have been trying to maintain under limited and challenging conditions has become even more difficult due to yesterday’s earthquake. Our efforts to play matches in the stadium, along with the renovation works carried out until now, have been seriously affected by the recent earthquake.

Moreover, the damage to our facilities has had severe negative effects on both us and our player brothers. Players from Malatya and those coming from other cities do not want to stay in the facilities. Our players, who are forced to prepare for matches and compete under these challenging conditions, are experiencing serious psychological issues, just like every brother living in our city.

Considering these circumstances, I would like to express, in front of the public, our desire to withdraw from the league, reserving our rights. Otherwise, there will be no other way to protect our players from experiencing trauma that they might never forget and that could threaten their lives. This responsibility lies primarily with the Turkish Football Federation and the entire public.

Respectfully,

Sahin ALTUNOK
President of Yeni Malatyaspor Club”
