Arsenal star Bukayo Saka is expected to be sidelined for “more than two months” following surgery on a hamstring injury, confirmed manager Mikel Arteta.
The 23-year-old winger suffered the injury during Arsenal’s 5-1 win over Crystal Palace on 21 December, leaving the pitch in the first half and departing the stadium on crutches.
Key Player Out for Arsenal
Saka has been instrumental for the Gunners this season, contributing nine goals and 13 assists in 24 appearances across all competitions. Arteta shared the latest on his recovery after Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Ipswich on Friday, a result that lifted the team to second place in the Premier League table:
“He had a procedure, and everything went well. But he will be out for many weeks, likely more than two months. His recovery will depend on how the scar tissue heals and his mobility in the coming weeks.”
Positive News on Sterling’s Return
In better news for Arsenal, Raheem Sterling, on loan from Chelsea, is expected to return sooner than initially feared.
Before the Ipswich game, Arteta stated Sterling would be out for “weeks” with a knee injury. However, recent progress suggests the injury is less severe:
“We probably expected the knee injury to take longer, but it has evolved well in the last few days. Hopefully, that’s good news because we need him.”
Sterling’s availability could provide a much-needed boost for Arsenal as they chase Premier League leaders Liverpool, who currently hold a six-point advantage.
What’s Next for Arsenal?
Arsenal’s next challenge is a New Year’s Day clash against Brentford, where they’ll look to continue their push for the title despite Saka’s absence.
