Carlo Ancelotti Admits “Worst Mistake” of His Career at Real Madrid
During his first stint as Real Madrid’s manager in 2015, Carlo Ancelotti has spoken out about a big error he feels led to his dismissal.
In 2014, Ancelotti guided Real Madrid to the historic La Decima, their tenth Champions League championship. But after a season without many major awards, he was fired the next year despite this triumph. Ancelotti reflected on that time and revealed a direct lesson he took away from it.
Ancelotti’s Reflection
Speaking to France Football, Ancelotti revealed:
“It’s impossible to make only good decisions over thirty years. For example, I made a mistake here in Madrid after my first year. I was very close to extending my contract, and the club wanted to keep me, but I pushed too hard to increase my salary, and they backed off. It was a mistake, the worst I could have made, but it allowed me to learn.”
