Celebration of Galatasaray’s 119th Anniversary

The 119th anniversary of Galatasaray Club was celebrated with a ceremony attended by President Dursun Ozbek and club members.

As part of the celebration activities, Galatasaray Club President Dursun Ozbek and club members first visited the grave of the club’s founding president, Ali Sami Yen, at Ferikoy Cemetery. The yellow-red delegation then proceeded to Galatasaray High School.

SPEECH BY DURSUN OZBEK

In his opening speech, President Dursun Ozbek said, “We are celebrating Galatasaray’s 119th anniversary. I remember Ali Sami Yen and his friends, who founded this club over a century ago with the goal of ‘defeating non-Turkish teams,’ with love, respect, and mercy. We will continue to work to advance this goal and to leave Galatasaray in the best possible condition for our successors.”

“LONG LIVE GALATASARAY”

Ozbek expressed that Galatasaray will continue to write success stories that everyone can be proud of, stating, “With its glorious history and free-spirited stance, Galatasaray is the pride of this country. No matter what difficulties we face in any branch, we will continue to write success stories that everyone can be proud of. With each victory, we will grow and strengthen even more. We will always stand by our young athlete brothers who grow with the values of Galatasaray. We will maintain our identity as a nurturing club. Galatasaray will continue to be the pride of Turkey. Here’s to many more years, long live Galatasaray!”

Following Dursun Ozbek’s speech, the oldest member, Vedat Akan, placed the 119th-anniversary plaque on the membership tree. The ceremony continued with the awarding of certificates and medals to those who have completed 50 years of club membership and concluded with the presentation of trophies won in all branches during the 2023-2024 season to the museum.
