Christoph Daum’s Passing Mourned in Germany: A Pioneer of Modern Football

The President of the German Football Association, Bernd Neuendorf, described Christoph Daum with these words.

Neuendorf referred to Daum as someone who “lived football with every fiber of his being.” Uli Hoeness, who had long been at odds with Daum, said, “The news of his death deeply affected me. He fought bravely against cancer and encouraged those affected by this illness.”

The passing of Christoph Daum was met with great sorrow in his home country, Germany. Uli Hoeness, the former president of Bayern Munich who had a long-standing feud with Daum, said upon hearing the news: “Daum never shied away from any confrontation throughout his life. We made peace with each other a long time ago. The news of his death deeply affected me. He fought bravely against cancer and encouraged others affected by this illness.” Bernd Neuendorf, the President of the German Football Association, stated that Daum had a significant impact on German football, saying, “He was a pioneer of modern football. He lived football with every fiber of his being.”

Xabi Alonso Also Released a Message

Xabi Alonso, coach of Bayer Leverkusen, where Daum previously worked, also made an emotional statement: “I am very happy that we could celebrate the championship with him in May and experience this joy.” Werner Wolf, President of FC Köln, added, “Christoph Daum achieved legendary status in the Bundesliga with his unrestrained ambition.”
