Coco Gauff Rallies from Behind to Keep US Open Title Hopes Alive
Defending champion Coco Gauff came from a set down to win her US Open third-round match against Elina Svitolina on Friday. The American struggled in a tight opening set but found her rhythm as the match progressed, ultimately securing a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory to keep her title defence alive.
Arthur Ashe Stadium erupted in a standing ovation as Gauff clinched match point. The crowd’s energy shifted dramatically after the 20-year-old initially fell behind, but Gauff quickly won them over as she began to dominate, often encouraging fans to make more noise after key points.
“I was using them to my advantage,” Gauff told Sky Sports when asked about the crowd’s support. “They always give me energy. I was doing my best to stay calm because sometimes the adrenaline can be too much.”
