Former Fenerbahce player Leonardo Bonucci recently gave an interview where he opened up about his professional career. Bonucci, who wore the Fenerbahce jersey during the second half of the 2023/2024 season, shared his experiences with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola for the first time.
After the 2023/2024 season ended, Bonucci retired from professional football. Currently enjoying his retirement, the Italian’s interview with Sky Italia made headlines in the national press.
“I DIDN’T WANT TO LEAVE MY COUNTRY”
Bonucci began by discussing the 2017/2018 season when he had to leave Juventus: “I transferred to Milan because I disagreed with head coach Massimiliano Allegri on many things. I had to leave the team, but I didn’t want to leave my country. I didn’t want to be far from my child. That’s why I chose to transfer to Milan, which was undergoing a new restructuring,” he said.
“THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NO PLACE FOR ME”
He then talked about his return to Juventus: “Everything went wrong at Milan. They told me, ‘There’s no place for you here.’ So, I wanted to go back to Juventus. Allegri was still the coach, but this time, everything was much better than before.”
“I TURNED DOWN MANCHESTER CITY TWICE”
The former defender also spoke about the transfer offers he received during his career: “Manchester City wanted to sign me twice, but I didn’t want to leave Juventus because I was happy there. During the season when I transferred to Milan, both Manchester City and PSG expressed their interest in having me, but I chose to stay in my country,” he concluded.
