Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has launched a scathing attack on the club’s hierarchy following their latest disappointing defeat, a 4-3 loss to Chelsea. Spurs had been leading 2-0 but squandered their advantage, leaving them 11th in the Premier League and with just one win in their last seven matches across all competitions.

Romero, who was a surprise inclusion in Ange Postecoglou’s starting lineup, was forced to withdraw due to injury during the game. The Argentina international, who is now expected to be sidelined for around six weeks with a muscle issue, expressed frustration with Tottenham’s lack of squad depth, which was exposed by a Chelsea side featuring several backup players.

In a blunt interview with Telemundo Deportes, Romero pointed out that rival clubs such as Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea consistently strengthen their squads, and he believes Spurs must follow suit. “Manchester City competes every year, you see how Liverpool strengthens its squad, Chelsea strengthens their squad, doesn’t do well, strengthens again, and now they’re seeing results. Those are the things to imitate,” he said.

Romero also highlighted a recurring issue at Tottenham, where changes in players and coaching staff have not led to sustained success. “The last few years, it’s always the same: first, the players, then the coaching staff changes, and it’s always the same people responsible,” he added. “Hopefully, they realise who the true responsible ones are, and we move forward because it’s a beautiful club that, with the structure it has, could easily be competing for the title every year.”

Tottenham are currently struggling with a growing injury crisis, with key players such as Micky van de Ven, Richarlison, and Wilson Odobert all sidelined. There are also concerns over the fitness of Ben Davies, Brennan Johnson, and Mikey Moore as the team prepares for Thursday’s Europa League clash with Rangers.
