Danner: “Mercedes’ New Parts Are a Total Disaster”

Christian Danner believes that Mercedes’ new parts are largely ineffective. Over the America weekend, the Mercedes team scored only 15 points, in contrast to Red Bull Racing and McLaren, who finished with 29 and 28 points respectively, while Ferrari took 55 points. The situation was even worse for Mercedes, as George Russell crashed his W15 at the end of qualifying on Friday and had to start the race from the pit lane. Lewis Hamilton also went off track on lap 19, retiring from the race.

Former Formula 1 driver and Motorsport Magazin commentator Christian Danner blamed the team’s recent updates. He stated, “I don’t think these updates are working properly.” He added, “There must be some reasons explaining why Hamilton made so many mistakes during qualifying. There should also be reasons for him going off track at the start of the race and then claiming it was due to a sudden gust of wind.”

Danner continued, “If we believe Lewis, these updates are so bad that the wind from behind can affect the car’s balance enough to cause a crash.” He emphasized, “Considering Hamilton is a true star, he shouldn’t be having any issues with driving. In other words, I have doubts about the effectiveness of Mercedes’ latest updates; they are working terribly.”

He concluded, “It is clear that there is a problem with the car, but the team has not yet been able to determine exactly what the issues are related to. The problem might not only be aerodynamic; there could also be mechanical reasons. Some components of the chassis may not be behaving as they should.”
