Premier League referee David Coote may face an aggravated misconduct charge as the FA investigates alleged derogatory remarks he made about Liverpool and former coach Jurgen Klopp.
A video that went viral on social media on Monday is at the center of the controversy. In the clip, a man, alleged to be Coote, is heard using offensive language against Liverpool and Klopp. The referee reportedly referred to the team as “sht” and used a derogatory term toward Klopp, calling him a “German c**.”
Following the video’s circulation, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), the organization responsible for overseeing referees in English football, swiftly suspended Coote. PGMOL also confirmed that a full investigation is underway to determine the facts behind the allegations.
