Alaves Manager Lashed Out at the Referee’s Decision

Alaves manager Luis Garcia Plaza has expressed his frustration over a controversial incident involving Real Madrid’s young star Endrick during their 3-2 defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu. The 18-year-old Brazilian forward was introduced in the final 20 minutes of the La Liga clash but found himself at the center of controversy after a clash with Alaves defender Santiago Mourino inside the penalty box.

Controversial Groin Kick

Endrick appeared to strike Mourino in the groin with his knee during a tussle in the box, an action that led many, including Plaza, to believe the forward should have been sent off. However, the referee opted to issue only a yellow card, sparking outrage from the Alaves camp.

Speaking after the match, a frustrated Plaza said:

“It’s a red card. We should have played the last 10 minutes against 10 men. It’s a clear red, nobody can say it wasn’t. If the referee didn’t see it, that’s what the VAR is for.”

He also acknowledged that while some of his players might have received more yellow cards than necessary, the incident involving Endrick clearly warranted a harsher punishment.

VAR Debate Continues

Plaza’s comments have reignited the debate over VAR and its usage, as many believe the system should have intervened to upgrade the yellow card to a red. The decision allowed Real Madrid to finish the game with 11 men and ultimately secure the win.
