Albon: “Being teammates with Sainz is an opportunity for me to show myself”

Carlos Sainz was left without a seat for next season after Lewis Hamilton announced he had signed a deal with Ferrari for 2025.

Sainz announced in July that he had signed a multi-year deal with Williams, with the Spaniard taking the seat alongside Alex Albon.

Speaking to Pirelli’s Box Box Box podcast, Albon said it was exciting to be team-mates with a driver of Sainz’s calibre.

“I’m excited to be teammates with Sainz,” Albon said.

“I think people can view this type of situation in two ways: They either see it as a threat or they see it as a challenge. I definitely see it as a challenge and I enjoy it.”

“People looking from the outside will probably say, ‘OK, finally Alex has a top-tier driver.'”

“This is a great opportunity for me. I can’t wait to show people what I can do,” he said.

Speaking about Williams’ goals for 2025, Albon admitted the team has a tough road ahead.

“We have a driver squad that can achieve great things next season.”

“It’s going to be a tough task. Both Carlos and I are aware of the tough road ahead for this team to get to the top. I’m particularly aware of this because I’ve been here longer.”

“But I’m excited about it. I’m seeing the changes being made in the background right now. After all, cracks have to form in order to build a solid foundation.”

Finally, when asked if he would rather win one drivers’ championship or 10 constructors’ championships, Albon laughed and said, “The drivers’ championship, of course!”
