Alex Morgan Says Emotional Goodbye to Football After 15-Year Career

US striker Alex Morgan, a two-time World Cup winner, played her last match in the National Women’s Soccer League on Sunday. Then she said an emotional farewell to professional football.

Alex Morgan had recently learnt that she was pregnant with her second child. The 35-year-old footballer decided to retire after this news. He captained the North Carolina Courage for the last time.

Morgan, whose first child Charlie was born in 2020, missed a penalty in the 10th minute and took his place three minutes later amid the standing ovation of 26,516 fans.

Addressing the crowd after the match, Morgan reflected on his extraordinary career: ‘What a journey!’ Morgan, who has played at the highest level of women’s football for 15 years, won two consecutive World Cups with the USA in 2015 and 2019. At the 2012 London Olympics, she won the gold medal.

“I want to thank my teammates for constantly challenging me every day and making me better,’ Morgan added. ‘There have been so many incredible moments in my career, but I will forever cherish this last moment I shared with all of you on the court, so thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
