Angharad James Named New Wales Captain
The Wales women’s national team has named midfielder Angharad James as their new captain. James plays for the Seattle Reign.
James will now become the captaincy permanently. During Wales’ Euro 2025 qualification campaign, James was one of four players to don the armband. The 30-year-old will captain Wales against Slovakia in their pivotal Euros play-off semifinal as they look to make their first-ever major tournament qualifying.
James, a former player for Reading and Tottenham, has 122 caps for Wales since her debut in 2011 and a plethora of experience overall. She takes over for Sophie Ingle, who gave up her position as captain in April. Vice captains Ceri Holland and Hayley Ladd will stand by James.
