Barcelona Considering Wojciech Szczesny Contract Extension Despite No Game Time
Only a few weeks after the goalie joined the team, Barcelona is allegedly considering offering Wojciech Szczesny a contract extension. In October, the 34-year-old announced his retirement to join the La Liga leaders as a stand-in for Marc-André ter Stegen, who was injured.
Despite being Iñaki Peña’s backup and having not yet made his debut, Szczesny, a Polish goalkeeper, has received recognition for his professionalism, work ethic, and positive impact on the team. Deco, Barcelona’s sports director, is allegedly impressed by these attributes and is thinking about keeping Szczesny on past the current campaign.
A Clever Move
Due to a void in their goalkeeping roster caused by ter Stegen’s knee injury, Barcelona decided to sign Szczesny. Szczesny accepted the temporary position with the team despite his August football retirement, demonstrating his willingness to contribute even in a little way.
Barcelona’s attempts to keep their goalkeeping staff stable and deep are reflected in the possible contract extension. Since Iñaki Peña’s long-term future is uncertain, keeping Szczesny on board for a lengthy time might give the squad leadership and experience.
