Ante Budimir’s Brace as Osasuna Stuns Barcelona in Their First La Liga Defeat of the Season
Croatian striker Ante Budimir delivered a standout performance as Osasuna handed Barcelona their first La Liga loss of the season.
Osasuna Defeats Barcelona
Budimir opened the scoring in the 18th minute, heading in Bryan Zaragoza’s cross after sneaking behind the Barca defense. Zaragoza later doubled Osasuna’s lead, coolly slotting past goalkeeper Iñaki Peña on a one-on-one chance.
Barca’s Fightback
Barcelona pulled one back through Pau Victor after Sergio Herrera fumbled a shot into his own net. However, Budimir restored Osasuna’s two-goal cushion by converting a penalty after being brought down by Sergi Dominguez in the box.
Osasuna Secures the Win
Abel Bretones made it 4-1 with a stunning strike from the edge of the area into the bottom right corner. Lamine Yamal managed to score a late consolation goal for Barca, but it was too late to alter the result.
This defeat means Barcelona missed the chance to equal their best-ever start to a La Liga season, after having won their first seven matches. Real Madrid now has the opportunity to close the gap, trailing by just one point if they secure a win against Atletico Madrid.
Next Up: Champions League
Barcelona will shift their focus to the Champions League, where they will host Young Boys on Tuesday. The Catalan club will be hoping to recover from their opening group-stage defeat against Monaco.
