Tensions rose during the Göztepe-Fenerbahçe match in the 2nd week of the Süper Lig at Gürsel Aksel Stadium. Fenerbahçe President Ali Koç went to the section where away fans were supposed to be, as they were unable to enter, and showed his support. However, he was hit by foreign objects thrown from the stands, causing him to fall, and the game was temporarily halted.
Fenerbahçe was leading 2-0 at halftime, thanks to goals from Edin Dzeko (45+3′ penalty) and Youssef En Nesyri (45+7′). However, an unfortunate incident occurred early in the second half that no football fan wants to see.
