Como Defender Marco Curto Receives 10-Match Ban for Racially Abusing

FIFA has banned Marco Curto, Como’s defender, 10-matches for allegedly mistreating Wolves striker Hwang Hee-chan based on race. The episode took place in July during a pre-season friendly between the Serie A team and the Premier League club.

Concerned about the discriminatory behavior targeted at the South Korean player, the Korea Football Association raised the matter to FIFA. Investigative findings led FIFA to suspend Curto. A spokesman for The Independent claims that Curto was guilty of discriminating actions.

FIFA’s Official Statement

A FIFA spokesperson said:

“The player Marco Curto was found responsible for discriminatory behaviour and sanctioned with a 10-match suspension. Serving of half of those matches is suspended for a probation period of two years, and the player is ordered to render community services and undergo training and education with an organisation approved by FIFA.”
