Hannah Hampton became the youngest goalkeeper ever to reach 100 Women’s Super League (WSL) appearances in Chelsea’s 5-0 victory against Everton at the weekend.
The 23-year-old has made a seamless transition to top-flight football, continuing to grow from strength to strength in her bid to become England’s number one.Questions arose around Hampton’s decision to depart Aston Villa for Chelsea in the summer of 2023, as many fans wondered why a young keeper of her talent would opt to move to a club who were already stacked with the likes of Ann-Katrin Berger and Zecira Musovic.
However, it didn’t take long for Hampton to wave those questions away, making her debut for the Blues with a 3-0 clean sheet away to Bristol City in December 2023. For Hampton, the rest was history.
Having become the youngest WSL goalkeeper to reach 100 league appearances at just the age of 23, Hampton continues to prove why her talent knows no ceiling.

Pulling off ten saves against one of the best frontline’s in Europe, Hampton’s heroics saved the day for the Blues at the Joie Stadium.

England vs France – 31/05/24

Selected as England’s number one across both meetings with France in the UEFA Women’s Nations League, Hampton proved why she is so deserving of her spot in the Lionesses squad.

It was a disappointing outing for England at St James’ Park as France claimed a 2-1 on the occasion. Despite the result, Hampton was able to showcase her strengths after a leaping save denied Maelle Lakrar’s header from floating into top-bins.

Chelsea vs Aston Villa – 13/02/22

A performance against her future side marked the start of Hampton’s brilliance in the WSL. First denying a shot from Sam Kerr at close range, Hampton then regained her composure to pull off a remarkable double-save and block Guro Reiten’s strike.

France vs England – 05/06/24

Causing a serious selection headache for Sarina Wiegman, Hampton continues to prove herself to be a serious threat to Mary Earps for the number one shirt.

A game-saving save in the 91st minute saw Hampton preserve England’s 2-1 lead over France in a must-win clash with the Lionesses. Lightning reaction time from Hampton led England to victory in the UEFA Women’s Nations League fixture in Saint-Etienne.

Chelsea vs Aston Villa – 05/11/24

Coming in at number one is none other than Hampton’s heroic save in the dying minutes of Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over Aston Villa on the opening weekend of the current season.

Solidifying victory against her former side, a reaching save saw Hampton tip Sabrina D’Angelo’s header over the crossbar.
