In the EURO 2024 quarter-final match, France advanced to the semi-finals by defeating Portugal 5-3 in a penalty shootout after the regular time and extra time ended in a 0-0 draw.

Joao Felix was the only Portuguese player to miss a penalty, while all the French players successfully converted their penalties.

With this result, the first semi-final matchup of EURO 2024 will be Spain vs. France.

The tournament will continue today with two more quarter-final matches. England will face Switzerland at 19:00 CET, and Turkey will take on the Netherlands at 22:00 CET.

Host Germany Bows Out of the Tournament

In the quarter-final match of the 2024 European Football Championship, host Germany was eliminated after losing 2-1 to Spain.

The match, which ended 1-1 in regular time, saw goals from Dani Olmo in the 51st minute and Mikel Merino in the 119th minute for Spain, while Florian Wirtz scored Germany’s only goal in the 89th minute.

Spanish defender Dani Carvajal was sent off with a red card in the 120+5th minute.

In the first half, both teams sought goals while maintaining defensive security. Neither team managed to convert their chances into goals, leading to a goalless first half.

51st Minute: Spain took the lead. Yamal, receiving the ball on the right wing, entered the penalty area and passed to Dani Olmo, who struck the ball into the net past Neuer: 1-0.

89th Minute: Germany equalized with increased pressure in the final minutes. Mittelstadt’s cross from the left found Kimmich at the far post, who headed the ball to Wirtz in front of the goal. Wirtz’s shot hit the right post and went into the net: 1-1.

With the regular 90 minutes ending in a 1-1 draw, the match went into extra time.

119th Minute: Spain regained the lead. Dani Olmo’s cross from the left found Merino at the near post, who headed the ball into the net past Neuer: 2-1.
