Gavi Reflects on ACL Injury: ‘It Made Me a Better Person and Team-Mate

After suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, Barcelona star Gavi talked about how it has changed him into “a better person” and “better team-mate.”

The teenage midfielder missed ten months of action after suffering an ACL injury during Spain’s November 2022 friendly against Georgia. He returned to Barcelona training in September following months of recuperation, but he has only lately played a few minutes, making five appearances against Bayern Munich in the Champions League and seven against Sevilla in La Liga.

Gavi said, looking back on his travels:

“I’ve learned a lot since you value things much more now. It’s an experience I will always remember. One of the hardest things I’ve ever had to deal with was this injury, but I think I’ve become stronger as a person and a teammate as a result.”

“My family, above all, who are with me daily, and my friends,” Gavi said, emphasizing the value of his support system. Together with my teammates, who stand with me every day, they have helped me get through it all.”

Gavi stressed patience when questioned about his recuperation strategy, saying:

“I haven’t set a timeframe. It’s about returning to my pre-injury form and gradually establishing my rhythm in each game. Although it’s a gradual process, I’m sure I’ll soon be on the same page as my teammates.”

As he recovers to full health on the field, Gavi’s perseverance and commitment continue to motivate supporters.
