The young striker, who turned down a chance to play for LaLiga giants Barcelona, opted instead to head to the Premier League.

Guiu made the switch to Chelsea from Barcelona earlier this summer after the Premier League club triggered his €6m (£5m/$6.6m) release clause. Barcelona’s sporting director Deco revealed that despite Barcelona’s efforts to keep the 18-year-old, including offering him a significant contract, Guiu chose to pursue a different path.

In a statement to the media, Deco said: “Chelsea paid his release clause and he left. He had an old contract with a €6 million release clause. We offered him an important contract and a significant project, but he decided to go in another direction. The player considered Chelsea’s offer. We offered him the project of becoming a striker at Barca, but he rejected us.”
