Gül Destan’s Criticism of Abdullah Avcı: “Don’t Mess with My Son”

Gül Destan, the mother of Trabzonspor player Enis Destan, has made harsh statements against head coach Abdullah Avcı, accusing him of not giving her son enough playing time and verbally abusing him. In a veiled threat, she warned, “Don’t mess with my son, or they will mess with you too.”

In her social media post addressing Avcı, Gül Destan said: “Dear coach, I’m asking you, what problem do you have with my son Enis? Enis wants to play, but you only give him the last 5 or 10 minutes. As if that’s not enough, you speak harshly to him. The team has been losing for weeks, and Enis is extremely upset. Yet, you keep pushing him. Why? Let it be known that if anything happens to Enis, I will make life unbearable for everyone!”

ENİS SHOULD BE THE FIRST CHOICE STRIKER
“Enis is a bright, talented target man. When given time, he does more than his best. Unlike others who get 90 minutes without contributing anything, Enis fights for the team on the field and might argue with the referee, which is quite normal. You can’t use that as an excuse to insult him. You called and persuaded him to join the team many times. So why are you treating him like this now? Is this your idea of fairness—giving others 90 minutes and Enis only 5? Enis should be the team’s first-choice striker.”

ACT LIKE A FATHER
“I’m telling you, don’t mess with my son, or they will mess with you too, if you understand what I mean! He’s as young as your own son; act like a father, and you won’t lose—you’ll gain.”

Criticism During the Turkish Cup Match Against Karagümrük
Gül Destan also criticized Abdullah Avcı last season when her son was sent off in Trabzonspor’s 3-2 win against Karagümrük in the Turkish Cup. Enis Destan was referred to the PFDK (Professional Football Disciplinary Board), which Avcı publicly supported as the correct decision. Gül Destan responded, saying: “It’s as if Enis had killed someone or injured them severely, breaking their arms or legs, that he’s being referred to the PFDK. There was no red card offense in that situation. And Coach Abdullah says in the media that it was the right decision. What’s right about it? Why don’t you, as his coach and the management, stand by him and support him?”
