Kaan Kahriman becomes European champion with 3 gold medals
At the ongoing European Junior and U23 Weightlifting Championships in Poland, Kaan Kahriman claimed three gold medals in the men’s 67 kg category, becoming the European champion.
In the event held at the Raszyn Centrum Sports Hall in Warsaw, Turkish athletes Kaan Kahriman and Engin Kara took the stage in the men’s 67 kg competition. Kaan Kahriman won the gold medal in the snatch with a lift of 144 kg, while Engin Kara secured the silver with 128 kg.
Kaan Kahriman also took gold in the clean and jerk with a 156 kg lift, and his total of 300 kg earned him another gold medal and the European championship, during which the Turkish national anthem was played.
Engin Kara finished fourth in the clean and jerk with 150 kg, and his total of 278 kg earned him a silver medal, making him the European runner-up.
With these achievements, the total medal count for Turkish athletes at the championship has reached 26, including 10 gold, 10 silver, and 6 bronze medals.
‘I’M VERY HAPPY’
After the competition, Kaan Kahriman expressed his joy, saying, “This is my second European championship. I’m very happy to have won 3 gold medals. We had a great and intense training camp. It was incredibly proud to win these medals and have our national anthem played once again. I would like to dedicate these medals first to the martyrs of TUSAS, then to my family, my girlfriend, my loved ones, and the Turkish people.”
