Khadija Shaw Shines with Hat-Trick as Man City Dominate Tottenham in WSL Clash
In the Women’s Super League (WSL), Khadija Shaw led Manchester City to a decisive 4-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, with Lauren Hemp contributing three assists in a brilliant display.
City seized the initiative right away, taking advantage of Tottenham’s weak defense, which has now let up 18 goals this season—more than any other WSL team. Shaw easily slotted home to open the score after taking advantage of a defensive blunder by Clare Hunt. Even though they made an attempt to rally, Tottenham seemed unsettled by the early loss, as City’s constant pressure caused their attempts to play out from the back to continually fail.
Yui Hasegawa put goalkeeper Becky Spencer to the test with a long-range attempt, forcing a save as City’s dominance continued. Hemp’s well-timed cross into the box in the fifteenth minute proved that the pressure had paid off. Shaw scored her second goal with a strong header after outpacing the defense.
Second-Half Attack
Amy James-Turner was substituted for Hunt by Tottenham at halftime, but the move had minimal effect. Just after the hour, City’s lead was increased when Jill Roord scored after Hemp had set her up. Shortly after, Shaw finished her hat-trick by turning the ball into the net after Hemp’s second accurate cross.
