Manchester City Loses “Amazing” Talent Who Could Have Been the Next Kevin De Bruyne

Borussia Dortmund’s star Felix Nmecha is being touted as a player with the potential to fill the void left by Kevin De Bruyne at Manchester City. However, City let this young star leave on a free transfer back in 2021.

While Manchester City has dominated the Premier League in recent years, Kevin De Bruyne has been a standout player. Unfortunately for City, they may have let a player go who had the potential to replace De Bruyne—Felix Nmecha.

The 23-year-old Nmecha, who graduated from the Manchester City Academy, struggled to break into the first team and eventually moved to Wolfsburg in Germany. After an impressive spell there, he joined Borussia Dortmund in 2023. Since joining Dortmund, Nmecha has played in 32 matches, scoring two goals and providing two assists, becoming a key figure in midfield.

Nmecha Compared to De Bruyne

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig has drawn comparisons between Nmecha and City legend Kevin De Bruyne, citing the young star’s vision and creativity as reasons he could have filled De Bruyne’s role at City. Similarly, football analyst Antonio Mango referred to Nmecha as an “amazing talent,” suggesting that Manchester City may regret letting him go.

With rumors swirling about a possible transfer of De Bruyne away from Manchester City in the summer of 2024, many believe Felix Nmecha could have been the ideal future replacement for the Belgian playmaker.

Nmecha has started the current season strongly under the guidance of Nuri Şahin, showcasing his physical strength and creativity in midfield, making him one of the standout young talents in European football.
