Marko: “Lawson Is Not Wasting Our Trust”
Helmut Marko praised Liam Lawson’s performance while criticizing Sergio Perez after the Mexico Grand Prix.
Sergio Perez’s home race in Mexico did not start as well as he had hoped, as the Red Bull driver was eliminated in Q1 during the qualifying rounds on Saturday. Starting the race from 18th position, Perez made a decent start but received a 5-second penalty for a starting infraction. This led to a minor contact with Liam Lawson as they battled for position. By the end of the 71-lap race, Perez finished in 17th place.
Marko commented in Speedweek, “Sergio Perez had a tough weekend in Mexico. We know that qualifying is not his strong suit, but being eliminated in Q1 was a big disappointment.”
Marko, “It was not understandable for a man with his experience to make a starting infraction,” he wrote. “Unfortunately, the battle with Liam Lawson also caused serious damage to Perez’s car; with downforce significantly reduced, Sergio’s car no longer had the speed to compete.”
While seriously criticizing Perez, Marko did not forget to praise current RB driver Lawson. “Liam Lawson made a strong comeback in the U.S. and finished the race in ninth place. I was also impressed by his consistent development in Mexico.”
“Liam Lawson has proven his qualities so far. He is not wasting the trust placed in him.”
