Mass Resignation of Coaches in the Super League! 4 Changes in 8 Weeks…

As the 2024-2025 season of Trendyol Super League has progressed 8 weeks, 4 teams have changed their coaches due to poor results. Last season, 9 coaches resigned in the same period.

With 8 weeks completed in the Super League and a two-week break due to national matches, 4 teams made coaching changes. Adana Demirspor, Hatayspor, and Kayserispor, all of whom have yet to win, along with Trabzonspor, also experienced a coaching change.

First Resignation from Trabzonspor

Abdullah Avci, who returned to Trabzonspor on October 12, 2023, after Nenad Bjelica’s departure, had a short stint this season. The team started the league with a draw against Sivasspor, and later failed in the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League qualifiers. Following a series of poor results, the management decided to part ways with Avci before the match against Eyupspor in the second week. Trabzonspor later signed a contract with Senol Gunes.

Pulat Kept the Team in the League Before Parting Ways

Ozhan Pulat, who took over as head coach of Hatayspor as they battled to stay in the league at the end of last season, managed to keep the team in the league with successful results. The board decided to change coaches after the 4th week of the new season despite starting the season with Pulat. He had 1 draw and 3 losses in his 4 matches. Experienced coach Riza Calimbay took over at Hatayspor, who has not yet won a match in the first 8 weeks of the Super League.

First Foreign Departure in Adana

Michael Valkanis, one of the 6 foreign coaches in the Super League, became the first foreign coach to leave this season. Adana Demirspor, which started the season without being able to make transfers due to a closed transfer window, had 1 draw and 5 losses under Valkanis in the first 6 matches. Following the poor results, the management parted ways with the Australian coach, and Serkan Damla, who was an assistant coach, was appointed as the new head coach.

Burak Yilmaz’s Tenure Lasted 8 Months

Kayserispor, which also had a closed transfer window, made a coaching change as well. Burak Yilmaz, who took charge in January, finished the league in 14th place. Starting the new season with consecutive points losses, the young coach resigned after a 3-0 defeat to Besiktas in the 7th week. Burak Yilmaz recorded 3 draws and 3 losses this season with Kayseri, failing to stop the poor run.

Last Season Experienced Mass Resignations in 8 Weeks

In the 2023-2024 season, 9 teams made coaching changes by the 8th week, while this season saw less than half that number, which is noteworthy. Historically, the least changes occurred in the 2020-2021 season (2) during the first 8 weeks, while 3 teams changed coaches in the 2019-2020 and 2022-2023 seasons. In the 2021-2022 season, which saw many coaching changes, 6 teams changed coaches within the first 8 weeks. Last season, 18 coaches were dismissed in the first 17 weeks.
