New Crisis in Spanish Football: ‘Coaches Not Getting Paid’

A new crisis has emerged in Spain’s first and second football leagues as some coaches are not receiving their payments, either while they are still in their roles or after being dismissed.

Spanish football coaches held their annual meeting in Madrid, where the primary topic of discussion was coaches not getting paid by their clubs. It was reported that a meeting would be held tomorrow with LaLiga, the institution overseeing the clubs in Spain’s first and second divisions, to find a solution to this issue, showing solidarity among all coaches.

A First in Spanish Football

The Spanish media reported that “if the payment issues are not resolved, the coaches are threatening to go on strike, which would be a first in Spanish football.”

Notably, Quique Setien, who managed Barcelona during the 2019-2020 season, is still yet to receive his full compensation after being dismissed. Similarly, Alvaro Cervera faced long-standing issues regarding his compensation after leaving Cadiz in January 2022.

  1. Espero que esta crisis no crezca, de lo contrario podremos ver separaciones muy malas tanto para los futbolistas como para los entrenadores.
