Sergio Perez said that leaving Red Bull was never on the table and that speculation to the contrary stemmed from “different agendas.”
Perez’s recent drop in performance led to widespread speculation during the summer break that he would be replaced by either Daniel Ricciardo or Liam Lawson, as his form was seen as weakening Red Bull’s grip on the championship. However, following the Belgian Grand Prix, Red Bull announced on Monday that Perez would remain with the team.
Though this announcement was unexpected by many, the Mexican driver says that leaving the team was never an option.
In an interview with The Times, Perez said, “There was never any doubt about it. What’s really important for us is to focus on what Red Bull needs to do, and we still have a lot of work to do.”
“The rest is just speculation driven by different agendas. You have to remember that there are many agendas in this sport.”
“At this point, what’s important is to maximize your career and your potential. You just have to keep giving your all to the team, and that’s what I’ll keep doing.”
“It’s easy to say ‘I don’t care what people say,’ but of course you care. However, I try to care less and less each time,” he said.
Perez deve andare.
