RUSSELL CRASHES INTO BARRIERS WITH 30G IMPACT

George Russell made statements following his crash during the second practice session.

Mercedes driver George Russell experienced a 30G impact after crashing into the barriers during the second practice for the Mexican Grand Prix. The British driver was taken to the medical center, where he was reported to be fine after checks and was discharged. The fact that the crash occurred during a session dedicated to Pirelli tire testing slightly mitigated the damage for Mercedes.

While on a lap with C4 performance tires, Russell lost control of the rear of his car after going too far over the curb at Turn 8 and crashed into the barriers. He was seen holding his ribs and appeared to be in pain as he exited the cockpit and was taken directly to the medical center.

After returning to the paddock, Russell described the crash: “The car started to hit the asphalt, and I was trying to turn the corner without being able to maintain control. This is frustrating because we were really strong and fast in the first practice. I tried to take the same line in that corner, but the car went out of control in the second practice.”

“The second practice was a Pirelli tire test, so we won’t learn much for the weekend from that session. Therefore, the third practice will be important.”

“There is still a lot of work to be done for the team tonight. It seems like things are going wrong constantly right now. I hope we can fix the car.”
